Zentangle Pumpkins
Third Grade students learned about the American artists Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts and the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. They drew their pumpkin by carefully observing a real pumpkin and then learned how to create zentangles by mixing lines and shapes. They also learned about patterns, outline, and expression in the arts. Connections to Math.

Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rooster
Third Grade students learned about the Chinese New Year or Lunar Year and filled a circle map with facts about the celebration. They also learned that the year 2017 is the Year of the Rooster. They learned facts about the actual bird and practiced drawing a rooster. They learned how to make small brushstrokes and paint impasto with tempera paint for texture.
