All First Grade students learned about the Color Wheel, and created their own by writing their name in bubble letters, sectioning their paper and coloring it with crayons.

Abstract Mondrian
First Grade students learned about Primary Colors and created their own abstract, Mondrian style artwork, out of construction paper. They printed the black lines out of cardboard edges with tempera paint.

Pumpkins in Moonlight
All First Grade students learned about Secondary Colors and created their own Moonlit Pumpkin landscape after reading the book "I Love Pumpkins". They mixed the Primary colors by themselves to make the Secondary colors. Materials: tempera paint, and oil pastels. Connections to Literature.

First Grade students were introduced to different kind of lines and practiced following directions. They created a winter scene of colorful owls in the snow after learning about different kinds of birds; especially owls. All first Grade students learned about symmetry, the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh, and his artwork "The vase with the sunflowers". They created their own symmetrical vases out of construction paper and ripped the paper with their fingers to make the bouquet of flowers. They used construction paper, scissors, glue sticks, and their "magic" fingers.
