MIce and Secondary Colors
First Grade students learned about the Element of Art, color, and mixed the secondary colors by themselves (orange, purple, and green). The colors of the ears represent the primary colors that were used for each mouse. They created an artwork out of the painted paper and crayons.

Penguin potato prints
First Grade students learned about printing techniques after they created a circle map with facts about penguins. They learned about printing with unconventional objects likes real potatoes. They also learned about crayon resist by painting with watercolors on crayons drawings, and symmetry by making symmetrical snowflakes. Students challenged themselves with the snowflakes because they made the snowflakes with white crayons on white paper and it was very difficult for them to see what they were drawing. Materials: real potatoes, white crayons, watercolors, brushes, white, black and orange liquid tempera. Connections to Science, and Math.

First Grade students learned facts about India, its culture and its tradition of making dhurrie rugs in wooden traditional looms. They created their own dhurrie rugs out of paper, by using construction paper, scissors, glue sticks and yarn. Connections to Social Studies.

First grade students learned about Mexico, its culture and its traditional clothing. They also learned about patterns and symmetry. They created their own sombreros out of construction paper and paint, or out of drawing paper, sharpies and crayons. Connections to Social Studies. |
