Studio Art News for June 2017
Kindergarten: For the month of June some of the young artists in Kindergarten classes will continue their patterned snakes and some will learn about the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso and his artworks. They will learn how to rip the construction colored paper to create a bouquet of flowers.
First Grade: For the month of June, some of the young artists in First grade classes will finish their artworks of people in motion using warm and cool colors and some will learn about the Russian artist Wassili Kandinsky and his artworks.
Second Grade: For the month of June the young artists in Second grade will learn about aboriginal art. They will learn about the importance of symbols and they will use aboriginal symbols to create a work of art.
Third Grade: For the month of June, the young artists in Third grade will finish their artwork of the Statue of Liberty and will learn about the French artist Paul Cezanne and his Still Life paintings.
Fourth Grade: For the month of June the young artists in Fourth grade will finish their scratch art and they will start learning about sculpture and specifically paper sculpture.
Fifth Grade: For the month of June the young artists in Fifth grade will learn about the art form of micrography and they will create one of their own.

Kindergarten: For the month of May the young artists in Kindergarten classes will continue learning about patterns with lines and colors. They will create a patterned snake, which will be colored with colored sharpies.
First Grade: For the month of May, some of the young artists in First grade classes will finish their paintings of lupine flowers and some will start learning about the American artist Keith Harring and his paintings and graffiti artworks. Students will create their own people in motion using warm and cool colors.
Second Grade: For the month of May some of the young artists in Second grade will continue painting a bird of their choice and some will learn about aboriginal art. They will learn about the importance of symbols and they will use aboriginal symbols to create a work of art.
Third Grade: For the month of May, the young artists in Third grade will continue with their artwork of the Statue of Liberty after the artist Peter Max and his patriotic artworks.
Fourth Grade: For the month of May the young artists in Fourth grade will continue their scratch art. They will create their own Chinese or Greek vase out of their own handmade scratching board.
Fifth Grade: For the month of May, some of the young artists in fifth grade will continue with their tie-dye bandanas and some will start learning about the importance of symbolism in the Arts. They will create their own symbols and they will print them out of Styrofoam plates, after they learn printing with ink. They will also learn about the American pop-artist Andy Warhol and his silk printings.

Kindergarten: For the month of April, some of the young artists in Kindergarten classes will continue learning about primary and secondary colors and some will start learning about patterns with lines and colors. They will create a patterned snake, which will be colored with colored sharpies.
First Grade: For the month of April, some of the young artists in First grade classes will continue their artwork expressing themselves through letters, numbers, and colors, and some will create an artwork with lupine flowers after they read the book "Mrs. Rumphius" by Barbara Cooney.
Second Grade: For the month of April, some of the young artists in Second grade will continue painting a bird of their choice and some will learn about aboriginal art. They will also learn about the importance of a sketchbook, and they will create their own sketchbook.
Third Grade: For the month of April, the young artists in Third grade will finish painting a rooster on an original background and they will start learning about the artist Peter Max and his patriotic artwork.
Fourth Grade: For the month of April the young artists in Fourth grade will continue their scratch art. They will create their own Chinese or Greek vase out of their own handmade scratching board.
Fifth Grade: For the month of April, the young artists in fifth grade will finish with their grid self-portrait. They will start learning about tie-dye and they will tie-dye their own bandanas.
Studio Art News for March 2017
Kindergarten: For the month of March, the young artists in Kindergarten classes will continue learning about color theory; specifically about primary and secondary colors. They will create a train or a boat out of primary and secondary colors. Connections to Literature with the books "Color Dance" by Ann Jonas, and "Freight Train" by Donald Crews.
First Grade: For the month of March, the young artists in First grade classes will continue their artwork expressing themselves through letters, numbers, and colors, just like the American artist Jasper Johns.
Second Grade: For the month of March, the young artists in Second grade will continue painting a bird of their choice. They will also learn about the importance of a sketchbook, and they will create their own sketchbook.
Third Grade: For the month of March, the young artists in Third grade will finish painting a rooster on an original background and they will start learning about the artist Peter Max and his patriotic artwork.
Fourth Grade: For the month of March, the young artists in Fourth grade will continue learning about Chinese and Greek vases, as well as scratch art by the American artist Cathy Sheeter. They will create their own Chinese blue vase.
Fifth Grade: For the month of March, the young artists in fifth grade will finish with their grid self-portrait. They will start learning about tie-dye and they will tie-dye their own bandanas.

Kindergarten: For the month of February the young artists in Kindergarten classes will finish their Snowman in a Cone and will start learning about color theory and specifically about primary and secondary colors.
First Grade: For the month of February the young artists in First grade classes will finish their Paul Klee cityscapes and they will start learning about the American artist Jasper Johns and his artwork. They will create an artwork out of the alphabet or the letters of their name; Alphabet Soup
Second Grade: For the month of February the young artists in Second grade will continue painting a bird of their choice. They will also continue learning more about the artist, author, and ornithologist John Audobon.
Third Grade: For the month of February the young artists in Third grade will continue painting a rooster on an original background for the Chinese New Year.
Fourth Grade: For the month of February the young artists in Fourth grade will finish their food chain collage and will start learning about Chinese and Greek vases as well as scratch art with the American artist Cathy Sheeter.
Fifth Grade: For the month of February the young artists in fifth grade will continue with their grid self portrait. They will also learn about shading and values.

Kindergarten: For the month of January the young artists in kindergarten classes will continue practicing following directions and drawing lines. They will start learning about shading and perspective and they will create a cone snowman after they read the story "Snowballs" by Lois Ehlert. Connections to Literature, Science and Math.
First Grade: For the month of January the young artists in first grade classes will continue with their collage landscapes and the artist Paul Klee. Connections to Math.

First Grade: For the month of December the young artists in first grade classes will continue with their giraffes or collage cityscapes.
Second Grade: For the month of December the young artists in second grade classes will continue their drawing and painting of a bird of their choice.
Third Grade: For the month of December the young artists in third grade will continue their rooster painting for the Chinese New Year.
Fourth Grade: For the month of December the young artists in fourth grade classes, in collaboration with the Science teacher Mrs. White, will create a collage of the food chain.
Fifth Grade: For the month of December the young artists in fifth grade classes will finish their drawings of hands and start learning about self - portraits. They will also learn about the American artist Chuck Close and his grid portraits.

Kindergarten: For the month of November the young artists in kindergarten will finish their peacock painting and they will start learning about landscapes, foreground, middle ground and background. They will create a landscape with evergreen trees. Connections to Math and Science.
First Grade: For the month of November the young artists in first grade will finish their color wheels and they will start learning about the artist Paul Klee and his abstracted cityscapes. They will also learn about collage and they will create their own cityscape out of shapes. Connections to Math. Some classes also they will create a night landscape with giraffes dancing.
Second Grade: For the month of November the young artists in second grade will finish their leaves and they will learn about bird watching, and nature observation. They will create their own binoculars and draw and paint their own choice of bird. Connections to Science.
Third Grade: For the month of November the young artists in third grade will finish their zentagle pumpkins and they will start learning about Chinese New Year and the year of the Rooster. They will draw and paint their own rooster to celebrate the occasion. Connections to Cultural Influences in the Arts.
Fourth Grade: For the month of November the young artists in fourth grade will finish their surreal eye and bird. In collaboration with the science teacher, Mrs. White, for the next art project, the fourth grade students will create a collage with the food chain.
Fifth Grade: For the month of November the young artists in fifth grade will finish their guitars and they will learn about drawing from observation by drawing their own hands. They will also learn about the functions of the human brain and especially the abilities of the right side of the brain. Connections to Science.
Studio Art News for September and October 2016:
Kindergarten: For the month of September, the young artists in Kindergarten classes will be assessed for their fine motor skills (pencil holding, writing, drawing) and will learn how to follow directions in the art class. Then they will learn about the first element of Art, the line.
For the month of October, the young artists in kindergarten will continue learning about the first element of Art - the line - and they will create an artwork depicting a peacock.
First Grade: For the month of September, the young artists in first grade will continue their learning about the elements of Art and color theory, which they learned in kindergarten, and they will create their own color wheel.
For the month of October, the young artists in first grade will continue with color theory and their creation of the color wheel.
Second Grade: For the month of September, the young artists in second grade will learn how to observe their environment and real objects and will create a template out of real leaves. Then they will create a seasonal work of art from their leaf template.
For the month of October, the young artists in second grade will continue creating their artwork out of real leaves and they will learn about warm and cool colors and about blending with oil pastels.
Third Grade: For the month of September, the young artists in third grade will learn about Zentangle and about observing real life objects. They will draw a pumpkin by observing a real one and draw zentangle patterns on it.
For the month of October, the young artists in third grade will continue drawing their Zentangle pumpkins.
Fourth Grade: For the month of September, the young artists in fourth grade will learn about the artist Magrite and his surreal paintings. They will also learn about parts of the human eye and will draw a human eye with a surreal landscape in the pupil.
For the month of October, the young artists in fourth grade classes will continue with surrealism and their artwork of a surreal human eye.
Fifth Grade: For the month of September, the young artists in fifth grade will learn about the American abstract artist Jack Pollock with his dripping techniques and the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso with his blue period. They will create their own abstract painting by imitating Pollock's dripping technique.
For the month of October, the young artists in fifth grade classes will continue creating their abstract painting and they will learn about guitars as they will try to create a guitar out of their abstract painting.
