Surrealism
Fourth Grade students learned about Surrealism and the Belgian surreal artist Rene' Magritte. They also learned about the human eye and filled in a circle map with facts about it. They had to draw the human eye or the outline of a bird (their choice) and juxtapose it with drawings of contrasting objects. Connections to Science.

Food Chain Collage
Fourth Grade students practiced what they have learned in the Science class about the food chain. They shared their knowledge about the different levels of the food chain with their partner: decomposers, producers, consumers. They also learned about the front view of an animal and the side or profile view. They created their own collage of animals or plants of their choice made out of construction paper. Scratch Art
Fourth grade students learned facts about the Chinese New /Lunar Year by filling in a circle map. They learned about Chinese blue vases and about ancient Greek red and black vases. They compared and contrasted the vases by filling in the double-bubble map. They also learned about symmetry and asymmetry. They learned about scratch art, and about the American artist Cathy Sheeter. They created their own scratch board and scratched their own Chinese blue vase or Greek black on red or red on black vase.
