Stravinsky Portraits
All Fifth Grade students learned about the artist Pablo Picasso and how to follow lines. They were able to draw the portrait of the composer Igor Stravinsky, whom Pablo Picasso drew upside-down. The Fifth graders also drew the composer upside-down. They only used pencils.

Grid Self-Portraits
All Fifth Grade students learned about portraits, grids and the artist Chuck Close, who painted very large grid portraits. The Fifth graders created their own grid self-portrait out of pencil. They also learned about values and practiced the values of black and white on their self-portrait.

Winter Olympics, Sochi 2014
Fifth Grade students learned about the first Olympic Games. They learned about Olympia in Ancient Greece, and that the Olympic torch is lit for every Olympiad. They learned about the Olympic flag and what the five circles represent. They also learned about the mascots of the Olympic Games of 2014, in Sochi, Russia. The mascots, for the Winter Olympic Games of 2014, are: the Polar Bear, the Snow Leopard, and the Hare. For the Winter Paralympic Games of 2014, the mascots are: the Ray of Light (the fire boy) and the Snowflake (the snow girl).
The students drew the mascots to decorate our Gym for our school's "Olympic Games".

Dancing silhouettes
Fifth Grade students learned about the artists Henri Matisse and Edgar Degas, about Expressionism and Impressionism, about silhouettes and the proportions of the human body. They created their own dancing silhouettes to decorate the Gymnasium for the end of the year party. They used drawing paper, construction paper, white glue and scissors.
